The Psychology of Stories 1
The children.
In many modern stories, the main characters are often very young, usually still teenagers. The reason for this is simple: sales. Many modern stories are aimed at teenagers, who have not yet been fully assimilated into the world, and therefore have a much more wild imagination than those older than them. They see these characters are fufillments of their own wisher, for a life without rules, in which they are the stars of their own story. This wish comes from the stable, predictable world we now live in. Though the safety of modern society is needed to survive in this world, it also restricts us in ways, irritating us to no end.
